When you encounter errors on your PC, you may think that you need a host of PC repair tools from all over the web to fix your computer.  Chances are that you have most of the PC repair tools you need already on your PC or that one or two added ones will do the trick.

Fixing Common Problems with Tools on Your PC

One of the best ways to repair common computer errors is to make sure that you keep your PC updated.  It's tempting to ignore the little update balloon in the corner of your screen, but the Microsoft Update function is a very convenient repair tool.  Software developers are constantly fixing known computer bugs and offering free patches for Windows and some of its software.  Some of your purchased software may also offer free updates.

To fix other errors that crop up from time to time, Microsoft has also included a couple of very useful tools with their PCs.  The Disk Defragmenter rearranges the way your data is saved so that the disk does not have to spin as much to retrieve your files. This cuts down on wait time, which can invite program freezes.
  • Find this tool by right-clicking on the disk to be checked in the My Computer menu
  • Go to preferences
  • And then Tools to find the Defrag menu
Another helpful feature of your PC is the Check Disk tool.  This one fixes little errors and bad sectors on your hard disk.

  • Go to Preferences
  • And then Tools, then click on Check Disk Now.
Be Your Own PC Repair Tool

Your computer saves a lot of data just to help it load files and programs faster.  These files are referred to as temporary files and should be removed every so often to free up space and memory on your computer.

Open your browser and find the option under Options or Preferences to Delete Files, including "delete all offline content" or something similar that refers to temporary internet files.  You may need to search online for exact instructions for the browser you use.  You'll also want to clear your browser's History and delete Cookies.

Other temporary files that can bog down your PC can be found by:
  • Clicking through Start
  • Programs
  • Accessories
  • System Tools
  • And finally Disk Cleanup
  • Choose your hard drive (most likely C:\) and then check the boxes and delete
Adding a Registry Repair Tool

If you find that errors persist, you may want to add a registry cleaner to the tools that are already on your computer.  Registry errors account for most PC errors, so you'll want to learn more about using a registry cleaner as one of your PC repair tools to fix these issues.
 
 
The RPC Error is common.  Unfortunately, there is no known common fix for an RPC Server Error.  It is a trial and error of troubleshooting a variety of things.  An RPC error could be the result of something severe like spyware or malware or it could just be that your security settings haven't been configured properly.

What an RPC Error Looks Like

An RPC error comes up when the client tries to make a connection with the server.  Instead of waiting for the server to execute that Web page you wanted to connect to, you end up with one of these messages:
  • Access denied
  • RPC Server is Unavailable
  • The RPC server is too busy to complete the task
  • Remote server does not exist or is unavailable: error 462
How to Manually Resolve an RPC Error
  • Check your Internet Firewall settings
  • If your place of employment has a network, you may need to check that the MLS system has not been disabled.
  • Is a third party security setting such as AVG, Norton, McAfee, etc., blocking your connection?
If these simple solutions don't work, you may want to look into the setting the CTI Navigator is updated.  Another solution may fix it is, verifying that DCOM tunneling is enabled.

All of these solutions just fall short of typing "regedit" and mucking around in the registry.  You may be able to find some advice on an obscure website about how to hack into your registry, but I'd rather leave that to the professionals.

Leaving the Registry Edit to the Professionals

Okay, so when I claim you need to leave it to the professionals, let me make one thing clear.  A professional techie is not going to do much more than run a registry cleaner right off the bat when you bring it in.

So, my first suggestion would be to start researching advanced registry cleaners to fix the RPC error.  Don't just take the first free trial you can get either.  This is dangerous business.  You need to go with a well-known and reputable company that knows what they are doing to your computer.  Otherwise, you will end up deleting a bunch of files that you needed and send your whole operating system down the tubes.
